St Ita’s 2–1 Glin Rovers B

Match Report
St Ita’s welcomed Glin Rovers B to Ashford on a wet Sunday afternoon, with both sides knowing that a victory would move them up the table and create some breathing space from the relegation zone.

A combination of heavy underfoot conditions and the fact that neither team had played a competitive fixture in almost a month contributed to a sluggish opening. Ita’s carved out the first clear opportunity when Darragh Lane’s strike was pushed onto the post by Glin goalkeeper Cian Culhane, the rebound being cleared to safety.

That let-off proved costly as the visitors took the lead in the 21st minute. A corner from Billy Hogan was met at the back post by Adrian O’Sullivan, whose header found the net.

The Saints were unfortunate not to draw level around the half-hour mark when a loose ball in the Glin penalty area was met by several Ita’s players but would not fall kindly. Glin, however, almost doubled their advantage late in the half, only to be denied by an excellent long-range save from Ita’s goalkeeper Sean Richards.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with neither side able to take control and much of the play confined to the middle third. As conditions worsened, the game became increasingly scrappy, with a series of fouls disrupting the flow.
It was from one such set-piece that Ita’s found their equaliser. Aaron Kelly’s free kick caused problems in the six-yard box, and Damien Brouder reacted quickest to bundle the ball over the line.

Glin’s task became more difficult when Gerard Riordan was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card, allowing Ita’s to push forward in search of a winner. Fresh legs were introduced, and two substitutes combined to decisive effect. Seanie Curtin, introduced shortly after the hour mark, delivered an in-swinging corner that was met by Paul Fitzmaurice, whose powerful header from 12 yards found the back of the net with ten minutes remaining.

St Ita’s managed the closing stages well to see out the game and secure their first league victory of 2026.
