Tulla United AFC vs St Ita’s AFC
The Saints travelled to Limerick on Saturday evening for their rescheduled FAI Junior Cup tie against a Tulla United side currently chasing the Clare and District Premier League title. A tough contest was expected, and that’s exactly how it unfolded.
Ita’s made the brighter start and edged possession in the opening quarter without managing to seriously test Tulla goalkeeper Eanna Culloo. As the half wore on, the home side began to assert themselves on the ball, but disciplined organisation and strong defending from the Saints limited them to few clear-cut opportunities.
Sean Richards remained alert in the Ita’s goal and was called into action just before the interval, producing a fine save from a fizzed effort struck from outside the box.
Half-Time: 0–0
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Tulla probing patiently while the Saints looked dangerous on the counterattack. On the hour mark, a Jack Long effort drifted narrowly wide of the post in what was a promising opportunity.
Tulla capitalised on that let-off in the 67th minute when a deflected strike from Adam Kilker found its way to the net to break the deadlock. Just three minutes later, good build-up play from Ita’s saw Jack again in space on the angle of the box, but his effort was well saved at the near post by the Tulla keeper.
As the game moved into the closing stages, the Saints had one final chance to level. A quick break down the line by Ciaran Dore ended with a perfectly weighted square ball into the box, finding Jack unmarked. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make clean contact and the opportunity slipped away.
Full-Time: Tulla United 1–0 St Ita’s
