St Ita’s vs Askeaton Kilcornan AFC

Result: St Ita’s 2 – 4 Askeaton/Kilcornan (after extra time)

St Ita’s U14s suffered a narrow defeat after extra time against a strong Askeaton/Kilcornan side in an entertaining and competitive fixture.
With a number of regular players unavailable, the squad was boosted by the welcome additions of Liam Mcinery, Cathy Casey, and Kayla Clifton, whose efforts and commitment were greatly appreciated.

The game began at a lively pace, with Askeaton/Kilcornan taking the lead inside the opening 20 minutes. St Ita’s responded positively and were rewarded before the break when Liam Mcinery converted a well-taken free kick to level the match, leaving the score 1–1 at half-time.

Both Cathy Casey and Kayla Clifton were introduced at the interval and made an immediate impact, showing great determination and not shying away from the physical side of the game.

With 15 minutes remaining, St Ita’s took the lead when Cathy Casey finished confidently from inside the box to make it 2–1. As the match looked to be heading for a St Ita’s victory, Askeaton/Kilcornan grabbed a late equaliser to force extra time.

Unfortunately, St Ita’s were unable to regain control during the additional period and conceded two further goals, resulting in a 4–2 defeat. The outcome was particularly disappointing given that St Ita’s had two clear one-on-one chances in normal time that could have sealed the game.

Despite the result, the performance showed great spirit, resilience, and effort from the entire squad, and there were many positives to take into the next fixture.
