Ita’s Reserves welcomed Ballingarry Afc B in the Munster Junior Shield, with the visitors playing a division above the Saints it was @expected to provide a stern challenge.
The game began at a lively pace, with both sides threatening in the early stages. Jack Hennessy and Bobby Gore both went close for Ita’s, striking the side netting inside the opening 10 minutes. At the other end, Ballingarry also tested the defence, with David Hanlon forcing a fine save from goalkeeper John Murray. On the half-hour mark, Kieran Long’s powerful effort struck the crossbar and rebounded fortuitously into Murray’s hands, sparing Ita’s on that occasion.
Ballingarry eventually broke the deadlock when Colin Bresnihan rose to head home from a well-delivered cross. Murray was again called into action just before the interval, producing another solid stop to keep the deficit to a single goal at half-time.

However, the contest turned decisively shortly after the hour mark, as Ballingarry struck five times in a devastating 15-minute spell to put the result beyond doubt.
