As we approach the half way mark of the league season, this mornings game was going to put who ever got the 3 points in a stronger position for the 2nd half of the season.
It was the visitors who struck first when a speculative effort from the right hand side of the area evaded Sean richards reach as it went off his right hand post.
Our lads stuck to their task despite such an early setback. Some nice interplay between Jack, Darragh and Damien ended with a looping header from TJ striking the crossbar in the 7th minute. The lads had plenty of opportunity to put pressure on Breska from multiple corners and free kicks from distance but their back line kept us at bay with some solid defending. Breska were still creating chances, it took a smart save from Sean in goals just after the half hour from close range to keep the arrears to a minimum. Just before the half time whistle a well whipped corner sailed directly into goal from T Clancy to double both his and Breska’s tally.
HT 0-2
2nd half playing down the hill the lads started with a sense of purpose to get back into the game. Unfortunately the optimism was short lived a quick break down the right by Breska in the 49th minute was cut back from the byline, Eamon managed to cut out the original cross but Keith Punch followed up and finished the loose ball to the back of the net. Damien gave us a life line in the 53 minute when a towering header by Calum was smartly saved by their keeper but the loose ball was smashed home from 6 yards.
Breska had a chance to kill the game when they won a penalty with 20 minutes to play. Sean saved it well and Darren cleared the danger. The game was very open at this stage with both sides having chances and the visitor struck their 4th with 5 minutes to go, when a looping effort from the edge of the box from the foot of David hall killed the game.
While there was positive in parts of the game, giving soft goals away consistently can’t continue if we want to stay in the division.
