Junior lads made the trip to Glin Rovers F.C. morning knowing it would be a difficult game against last season's premier winners. The saints started well and had plenty of the ball in the first 15 minutes. The host grew into the game after a sluggish start and imposed themselves more and more as the half progress. 2 great saves by sean richards in goal to this right in the 22nd and 37th minutes keeping them at bay. We were still creating the odd chance, Jack long with a shot from the edge of the box with 5 minutes left until the break easily gathered by their keeper. Glin were awarded a penalty on the stroke of half time. Sean diving low to his left with another save ensured we went in a half time all square.
HT 0-0
Second half both sides had their fair share of the ball. But it was the hosts who took the lead in the 54th minute when Paul Sheahan made sure of his 2nd penalty of the game when he rifled it high into the back of the net. We continued to create chances of our own. In the 73th minute a free swung in from the sideline by martin mullane was met by Pj Bourke and his looping header struck the cross bar. TJ Kelly tested their keeper in the 82th minute. With us committing players going forward there was always a chance of a quick break from the hosts and we were caught out in the 86th minute when a ball down the left was crossed to the back post and knocked back for Jack sheahan to tap it home. Our lads could have dropped their heads but no they kept going. Calum o donoghue rattling the post with a free kick from 25 yards out in the 88th minute. We pulled one back from the spot when Calum scored from 12 yards 5 minutes into stoppage time. But was too little too late.
Full time 2-1.
