The junior welcomed our neighbours Broadford utd to Ashford this morning. The pitch in perfect condition for the derby and a shower of rain before kickoff made the surface slick and conducive to a quick game.
Game started even enough the visitors with plenty of the ball but not threatening our goal. In the 20th minute Aaron Kelly cut in from the right and attempted to lob the keeper from 30 yards It took a combination of the keeper and crossbar to keep it out. In the 27th minute a long ball by Broadford was headed clear by Eamon but fell to Mark lynch whose clean strike evaded Sean’s dive to give the visitors the lead. Just after the half hour Callum had a great opportunity to pull things level but will be disappointed with his timid effort from edge of the box gathered easily by their keeper.
H-T 0-1.
Second half the visitor had the lions share of possession but without troubling Sean in goals. On the 70min mark we made a triple change and with fresh legs we started to get more of the ball without testing their keeper. With the clock well into additional time we got the goal we deserved. Callum getting the ball to his feet 35 yards out, turned superbly and raced through on goal. His firmly struck shot giving the keeper no chance. That was the last kick of the game.
FT 1 - 1
A fair result, the visitors with more possession but the Saints with the clearer chances. Great to see a good crowd at the game.
