The junior team played their first game of the league this morning in a blustery Ashford against Rathkeale Afc. The visitors started well holding onto the ball in midfield without troubling our goal but probing all the time. In the 10th minute a wonderful reaction save from Sean Richards kept the game scoreless. We got on the ball more as the half progressed with a few half chances the best being a break down left and Peter Mulcahy lifting the ball over the keeper but just to the right of the post.
In the 32nd minute Paul fitzmaurice made history as the first goal scored by Ita’s in the premier, Martin mullane cross from a corner side footed home from 2 yards. The visitor increased pressure with multiple corners, but all dealt with by Sean in goals.
H-T 1-0.
Second half started like the 1st with the visitors have a lot of the ball but not troubling our goal.
Changes were made around the hour mark with Callum Donoghue and Jack long coming on for Paul Fitzmaurice and Seanie Curtin. Calum making a big impact when he doubled our lead in the 83th minute with a sweet strike from outside the area which hit both posts before nestling into the back of the net. He doubled his tally just 4 minutes later with another strike from distance which smashed off the underside of the bar before crossing the line. He was unlucky not to get his hatrick when in the 90th minute his effort clipped the outside of the post with the keeper beaten.
